Mipa Multi-Mat

Mipa Multi-Mat is a universal matting additive for reducing the gloss level of many Mipa topcoat systems. This additive is used when the target finish is not simply gloss or non-gloss, but a controlled intermediate sheen that has to be matched more accurately. In other words, Multi-Mat belongs in jobs where the final appearance depends on how much gloss is taken out of the coating and where the finish needs to be tuned deliberately rather than left to chance. That makes it especially relevant in refinishing and custom work where the correct sheen is part of the colour match, the style of the finish or the visual character of the panel. This keeps the adjustment controlled inside the intended Mipa mixing or coating system.

Unlike a ready-made matt clearcoat, this additive is not the final coating on its own. Its purpose is to be incorporated into compatible Mipa 1K and 2K topcoats so the gloss level can be reduced in a controlled way. Because of that, Multi-Mat is valuable wherever one coating system needs to cover more than one surface appearance. Semi-gloss, satin matt and matt effects often need a more adjustable approach, and this additive gives that flexibility within the coating system. It is also easy to stir in, which matters in practical paintshop use because an additive only helps when it fits naturally into the paint mixing process instead of complicating it.

Multi-Mat is not intended for clearcoats, and that distinction matters. This additive is meant for specific compatible topcoat systems where gloss reduction is planned within the mix. The visual effect also depends on the colour shade and should always be judged after drying, which is normal with matting work. In use, this additive belongs with finish control rather than broad all-purpose reduction claims. It is usually selected to reach a particular appearance, not simply to make a coating “less shiny.” That makes Multi-Mat a technical additive with a clear purpose: it adjusts gloss level while preserving a controlled final appearance.
