Coat a loading bay floor

LOADING BAY FLOOR COATING

Guide to coating a loading bay floor

A loading bay floor has to deal with repeated wheels, pallets, cleaning and dirty traffic paths. The right Mipa epoxy floor coating method starts with a prepared mineral surface and gives the bay a harder, easier to clean working finish.

What do you need to coat a loading bay floor?

Epoxy seal primer

Mipa EP 150-70 2K-EP Sealant primer colourless seals prepared mineral substrates, helps bind absorbent concrete and supports a more even epoxy floor build.

Solvent-free high-build floorcoat

Mipa EP 275-70 2K-EP floor paint is the heavier epoxy floor coating choice for mineral floors that need a dense, satin gloss and water-resistant finish.

Waterborne epoxy floorcoat

Mipa WEP 2300-50 gives an interior semi-gloss 2K epoxy coating for concrete and other prepared mineral substrates where abrasion and cleaning resistance matter.

Waterborne curing and viscosity control

Mipa WEP 9300-25 hardener and Mipa WBS deionised water support the WEP 2300-50 coating stage, helping the mixed coating cure and apply with the intended behaviour.

How to coat a loading bay floor

  1. 1
    Prepare the traffic path

Remove dust, laitance, grease and loose coating from the bay area, especially where wheels turn or pallets land.

  2. 2
    Seal the mineral floor

Use Mipa EP 150-70 on prepared absorbent concrete before the main epoxy coating stage.

  3. 3
    Apply the floorcoat

Use Mipa EP 275-70 or Mipa WEP 2300-50 in planned sections so the wet coating is not walked through during the job.

  4. 4
    Protect edges and joints

Work carefully at door thresholds, expansion joints and loading edges, because these areas usually see the strongest wear.

  5. 5
    Hold back traffic

Give the coating enough cure time before returning pallet trucks, forklifts or repeated loading movement to the bay.

Which loading bay floor coating should you choose?

High-build epoxy coating

Choose Mipa EP 275-70 where the floor needs a dense epoxy layer for a harder working mineral surface.

Waterborne epoxy coating

Choose Mipa WEP 2300-50 where a semi-gloss waterborne 2K epoxy floorcoat is the cleaner fit for an interior concrete floor.

Primer before floorcoat

Use Mipa EP 150-70 on prepared absorbent concrete before the coating stage so the surface is sealed more evenly.

Technical details

  • Mipa WEP 2300-50 is a waterborne 2K epoxy floorcoat for metallic and mineral substrates in interior use.
  • Mipa WEP 2300-50 uses Mipa WEP 9300-25 hardener at 4:1 by weight or 3:1 by volume, with Mipa WBS deionised water as the specified thinner.
  • At 20 °C, Mipa WEP 2300-50 has a pot life of about 3 to 4 hours and becomes resistant to mechanical stress after about 3 days.
  • Mipa EP 150-70 is a colourless 2K epoxy seal primer for mineral substrates and can also help with fissures and small reprofiling repairs when used according to its technical information.
Practical suggestion

For loading bays, schedule coating when the area can stay closed. Early traffic can mark or weaken a coating before it reaches its proper resistance.
