Repair and paint cracked motorcycle plastic parts

Motorcycle cracked plastic repair finish

Guide to repairing and painting cracked motorcycle plastic parts

Cracked motorcycle plastic parts need repair, shaping, adhesion support and refinishing as separate stages. The coating work should begin only after the plastic repair is stable, clean and shaped enough to accept primer, basecoat and clearcoat.

What do you need to repair and paint cracked motorcycle plastic parts?

Cleaning and degreasing

Mipa silicone remover removes contamination before sanding, filling, primer and basecoat.

Sanding and shaping

The MP Sanding Pad prepares the repaired plastic surface and smooths primer filler before the colour stage.

Reinforced filling

Mipa P 55 PE zinc fibre filler supports rigid filled repair zones after the damaged plastic has been stabilized and prepared.

Plastic primer and filler

Mipa 1K Plastic Primer supports adhesion, while Mipa 1K Plastic Primer Filler helps level small repair marks before colour.

Basecoat colour layer

Mipa BC Ready Mixed with BC Thinner VDG gives the matched colour stage once the repaired plastic surface is ready.

Clearcoat protection

Mipa 2K-HS Clearcoat CS 90 or Mipa 2K Clearcoat Spray protects the basecoat and creates the final gloss.

How to repair and paint cracked motorcycle plastic parts

  1. 1
    Stabilize the crack

Repair the crack first so the damaged area no longer moves before filler or paint work begins.

  2. 2
    Clean and sand

Degrease the area, then sand the repair zone and surrounding coating to a smooth keyed surface.

  3. 3
    Fill and prime

Use reinforced filler only on suitable rigid repair zones, then use plastic primer or primer filler before colour.

  4. 4
    Apply basecoat

Apply Mipa BC Ready Mixed basecoat after the repair surface has been shaped and cleaned.

  5. 5
    Finish with clearcoat

Protect the colour with the chosen 2K clearcoat method after the basecoat has flashed correctly.

Which plastic repair finish method should you use?

Stabilized flexible panel

Use plastic primer and plastic primer filler after the crack has been repaired and the surrounding plastic has been sanded.

Rigid filled repair section

Use Mipa P 55 only where the repair zone suits a reinforced filler approach and can be sanded into a stable shape.

Small aerosol finish

Use plastic primer spray and 2K clearcoat spray when the repaired part is small enough for aerosol refinishing.

Technical details

  • Mipa P 55 is a PE zinc fibre filler for bridging and filling work, not a colour coat.
  • Mipa 1K Plastic Primer and Mipa 1K Plastic Primer Filler support adhesion and filling on suitable plastic substrates.
  • Mipa BC Ready Mixed requires a compatible clearcoat for finished gloss and protection.
  • Crack stability must be checked before primer and paint are applied.
Practical suggestion

Do not rely on paint to hold a cracked plastic part together. Repair and stabilize the crack first, then build the coating only after the surface can be sanded without movement. Keep filler use conservative on parts that flex during fitting.
