Camper chip repair and refinish

Guide to repairing chips and repainting a camper or caravan front panel

Camper and caravan front panels take stone impact, insects and weather, so chips should be cleaned, levelled and refinished before moisture works into the damaged edge. This guide explains the repair filler, primer, colour and clearcoat roles for a controlled front-panel repaint.

What do you need to repair chips and repaint a camper or caravan front panel?

Degreasing cleaner

Mipa silicone remover in liquid or aerosol format removes wax, grease and silicone before sanding, filler, primer or coating.

Surface keying pad

MP Soft Pad Fine helps dull stable surrounding paint and feather chip edges without cutting sharp marks into the broader panel.

Local filler preparation

Mipa 1K Fast Filler and Mipa Spray Filler help level small prepared chip areas before the primer and colour stages.

EP primer filler system

Mipa EP primer filler builds the primer stage on prepared repair areas. Mipa EP Hardener E 25 normal and Mipa EP Thinner stay with this primer filler stage.

BC basecoat colour

Mipa BC Ready Mixed Two-Layer Basecoat creates the colour layer for the repaired front panel and is used with Mipa BC Thinner VDG where required by the system.

CC 8 clearcoat system

Mipa 2K-HS Clearcoat CC 8 protects the basecoat colour. Mipa 2K-HS Hardener HS 25 normal and Mipa 2K Thinner Normal V 25 stay with this clearcoat stage.

How to repair chips and repaint a camper or caravan front panel

  1. 1
    Clean the impact area

Remove wax, road film and silicone before sanding so contamination is not pushed into chip edges.

  2. 2
    Feather and fill chips

Key the surrounding paint, then use the filler stage only where small chips need levelling.

  3. 3
    Prime the repaired area

Apply the EP primer filler system to prepared repair zones so the colour coat has a controlled base.

  4. 4
    Apply colour and clearcoat

Apply the BC basecoat colour, then finish with the CC 8 clearcoat system once the colour layer is ready.

Which chip repair method should you choose?

Small chip levelling

Use 1K Fast Filler or Spray Filler for small prepared marks where the front panel needs local levelling before primer.

Broader front-panel repaint

Use the EP primer filler, BC basecoat and CC 8 clearcoat method when the repaired area needs a proper panel refinish.

Technical details

  • Filler products are preparation materials and should be sealed with the correct primer and coating stages before final exposure.
  • BC basecoat provides colour and should be protected with compatible clearcoat.
  • Hardener and thinner products belong only with the coating stage specified for them.
Practical suggestion

Repair chips before they spread under the old coating edge. A small controlled repair is easier to finish cleanly than a large failing front-panel area.
