Products for painting excavator buckets and attachments

Excavator buckets and attachments need robust preparation because old coating, soil, oil, rust and impact wear can stop a new coating from bonding to the steel properly.

What do you need to paint excavator buckets and attachments?

Cleaning and degreasing

Mipa silicone remover and Mipa silicone remover spray remove wax, grease and silicone before sanding, priming or coating.

Rust removal

MP Rust Remover Rust-Off removes rust from ferrous metal and flash rust from many substrates before the primer stage.

Sanding pad

MP Sanding Pad helps key curves, edges and awkward metal shapes so the primer has a cleaner mechanical grip.

Epoxy acrylic corrosion primer

Mipa EA 100-20 gives steel, galvanized steel, aluminium, GRP and e-coated surfaces a strong primer layer before the industrial topcoat.

Textured PU topcoat

Mipa PU 300-70 creates a satin-gloss textured 2K PU surface for resistant exterior coating work on heavy-use metal parts.

Texture hardener

Mipa 2K Texture Hardener A 61 is the matching hardener for Mipa PU 300-70 textured coating work.

Semi-gloss chassis topcoat

Mipa PU 265-50 is a 2K PU HS industrial chassis paint for durable semi-gloss colour on frames, guards and exposed steel parts.

PU hardener and thinner

Mipa PU 912-25 normal, Mipa PU 914-10 short and Mipa 2K Thinner Normal V 25 support correct curing and spray viscosity for the compatible 2K PU coatings.

How to paint excavator buckets and attachments

  1. 1
    Remove dirt and grease

Clean oil, wax and silicone from the attachment before rust removal or sanding so contamination is not driven into the surface.

  2. 2
    Treat rust and loose coating

Use Rust-Off on rusty ferrous metal and remove weak old coating around cutting edges, welds and wear zones.

  3. 3
    Prime exposed steel

Apply Mipa EA 100-20 where a corrosion-protection primer is needed before the topcoat.

  4. 4
    Choose the working finish

Use Mipa PU 300-70 for a textured resistant finish or Mipa PU 265-50 for semi-gloss colour on less abrasive outer sections.

  5. 5
    Protect fit and wear points

Keep pins, bushings, cutting edges and machined mounting faces free from coating buildup.

Which bucket coating finish should you choose?

Choose PU 300-70 for texture

Use the textured 2K PU topcoat on surfaces where a resistant structured finish is useful.

Choose PU 265-50 for semi-gloss colour

Use the semi-gloss chassis topcoat on attachment bodies, arms and exterior steel sections that need a cleaner painted finish.

Choose EA 100-20 below either finish

Use the epoxy acrylic primer on prepared steel or mixed metal where corrosion protection is needed below the chosen topcoat.

Technical details

  • Mipa PU 300-70 is described as a fast-drying 2K polyurethane textured topcoat for highly resistant paintwork.
  • Mipa PU 300-70 is listed with good chemical resistance and exterior suitability in the Mipa industry source text.
  • Mipa PU 300-70 is specified with Mipa 2K Texture Hardener A 61 and Mipa 2K Thinner.
  • Mipa EA 100-20 is listed for heavily stressed machines and plants, making it relevant for construction equipment steel after proper preparation.
Practical suggestion

Coating improves corrosion protection and appearance, but it will not replace wear plates or restore metal lost from cutting edges, pin holes or ground-contact faces.
