Paint tractor and trailer wheels

Tractor and trailer wheel painting with primer, wheel silver and PU topcoat options

Guide to painting tractor and trailer wheels

Tractor and trailer wheels collect brake dust, soil, road film and impact marks, so the repaint starts with cleaning and sanding before primer. Mipa Wheel Silver is used for a silver wheel finish, while Mipa PU 200-90 supports a glossy 2K PU colour finish where a painted machine shade is needed.

What do you need to paint tractor and trailer wheels?

Cleaning and degreasing

Mipa silicone remover and Mipa silicone remover spray colourless 400 ml remove grease, road film and handling residue before sanding, primer or finish.

Sanding preparation

MP Sanding Sponge keys curved wheel faces, rim edges and stable old coating so primer and finish can grip.

Rapid primer

Mipa Rapidprimer and Mipa Rapidprimer Spray build the primer stage on prepared wheel metal and local bare spots.

Wheel silver finish

Mipa Wheel Silver 1 l and Mipa Wheel Silver Spray 400 ml create the silver wheel coating after cleaning, sanding and primer.

Glossy PU topcoat

Mipa PU 200-90 glossy 2K PU topcoat creates a coloured machinery-style wheel finish where the wheel is being painted in a compatible shade.

PU topcoat components

Mipa PU 900-25 hardener and Mipa 2K Thinner Normal V 25 belong with the liquid PU 200-90 topcoat stage.

How to paint tractor and trailer wheels

  1. 1
    Clean the wheel

Remove soil, grease and brake dust, then wipe the paintable wheel surface with silicone remover.

  2. 2
    Sand and prepare

Use the sanding sponge to key the wheel face, rim edge and curved sections before primer.

  3. 3
    Mask functional areas

Protect tyres, valves, bolt seats, hubs and brake parts so coating stays only on paintable surfaces.

  4. 4
    Apply primer

Use Mipa Rapidprimer on prepared metal or exposed local spots before the finish stage.

  5. 5
    Apply the chosen finish

Use Wheel Silver for a silver wheel look or PU 200-90 for the compatible glossy colour finish.

Which wheel finish should you choose?

Silver wheel finish

Use Mipa Wheel Silver when the wheel needs a clean silver coating in liquid or aerosol format.

Glossy colour finish

Use PU 200-90 when tractor or trailer wheels need a compatible glossy colour topcoat instead of silver.

Primer format choice

Use Rapidprimer liquid for broader areas and Rapidprimer Spray for smaller spots, edges and local exposed metal.

Technical details

  • Mipa Wheel Silver is the silver coating stage for wheel repainting in liquid and aerosol format.
  • Mipa Rapidprimer is used as the primer stage before wheel finish on prepared metal.
  • Mipa PU 200-90 is the glossy 2K PU topcoat option for machinery colour work.
  • Tyres, valves, bolt seats, hubs and brake components should remain uncoated.
Practical suggestion

Decide on silver or colour before masking. The masking edge, spray angle and finish expectation are different when the wheel is being renewed in silver versus painted to match tractor or trailer bodywork.
