Guide to painting wooden chairs and tables

Wooden chairs and tables need a smooth, clean surface and a finish that can handle regular touch, cleaning and visible wear. This page focuses on the waterborne WBS method for a refined satin matt result.

What do you need to paint wooden chairs and tables?

WBS cleaning

Mipa WBS Cleaner prepares the surface inside the waterborne system, removing contamination that can disturb flow, adhesion or the final look.

Waterborne viscosity adjustment

Mipa WBS deionised water is the dedicated thinner for the WBS finish, used only when the coating needs controlled adjustment for brushing, rolling or spraying.

Satin matt wood finish

Mipa WPA 2100-40 gives a waterborne 1K PU acrylic satin matt finish for common wood surfaces, with a calm low-sheen look for furniture and visible interior pieces.

How to paint wooden chairs and tables

  1. 1
    Clean the wood

Remove dust, grease and old care products, paying attention to hands, arm rests, table edges and other areas that are touched often.

  2. 2
    Sand smooth

Sand with the grain until the surface is even and dull, then remove all sanding dust before coating starts.

  3. 3
    Prepare the WBS finish

Use Mipa WBS deionised water only when the WPA finish needs controlled viscosity adjustment for the application method.

  4. 4
    Apply thin coats

Apply Mipa WPA 2100-40 evenly by brush, roller, curtain or flow coating where suitable, keeping edges and legs free from heavy buildup.

  5. 5
    Let the finish harden

Allow the coating to dry and harden before stacking chairs, using table tops or cleaning the new surface.

Which finish choice works best for chairs and tables?

Satin matt for close-up furniture

Mipa WPA 2100-40 gives wooden chairs and tables a calmer low-sheen finish that suits furniture viewed and touched at close range.

Controlled thinning

Mipa WBS deionised water helps adjust the waterborne finish when needed, while keeping the coating inside the intended WBS method.

Clean first on used furniture

Mipa WBS Cleaner is important on older chairs and tables because skin oils, polish and cleaning residue can disturb the finish.

Technical details

  • Mipa WPA 2100-40 is a waterborne 1K PU acrylic topcoat for common wood types, furniture, stairs, wooden floors and parquet.
  • The finish is satin matt and supplied in 5 kg price group versions for colour selection within the system.
  • Edges, legs and table tops should be sanded evenly because glossy old coating and dust can reduce adhesion.
  • Only thin with Mipa WBS deionised water when the coating instructions and application method require it.
Practical suggestion

Turn chairs upside down first and coat hidden underside rails and leg returns before the visible faces. On tables, finish edges before the large top surface.
