Touch up small assembly damage

Small repair and touch up

Products for touching up small assembly damage

Small assembly damage on a painted part needs a clean repair edge, a compatible sealer or colour step and enough protection for the touched area. The work should stay local so the repair does not become larger than the original damage.

What do you need to touch up small assembly damage?

Degreasing before repair

Mipa silicone remover in liquid or spray format removes wax, grease and silicone before the damaged area is sanded or sealed.

Local sanding control

MP Sanding Pad keeps the sanding area tight around chips, rub marks and handling scratches caused during assembly.

Spot sealing

Mipa Spot Sealer Spray 500 ml grey glaze helps isolate local repair spots before colour is added.

2K colour repair

Mipa 2K Prefilled Spray or Mipa OC Ready Mixed Tones RM gives a colour method for small painted parts when a 2K finish is needed.

Clearcoat protection

Mipa 2K Clearcoat Spray high gloss incl. hardener gives a compact 2K clearcoat finish for local clear over base repair work.

System reducer and hardener

Mipa 2K-HS Hardener HS 10 short and Mipa 2K Thinner Short V 10 belong with compatible 2K coating stages when those systems are mixed.

How to touch up small assembly damage

  1. 1
    Clean the damage

Remove contamination around the mark so the repair starts on a clean surface rather than on wax or handling residue.

  2. 2
    Feather only the damaged area

Use controlled sanding to smooth raised edges, but keep the repair as small as the damage allows.

  3. 3
    Seal the repair spot

Use spot sealer where the local repair needs isolation before colour, especially on exposed primer or rubbed through areas.

  4. 4
    Apply matching colour

Use the selected 2K colour method in light coats and blend only as far as needed for a clean visual result.

  5. 5
    Protect with clearcoat

Apply 2K clearcoat when the colour system requires it and let the repair cure before polishing or handling.

Which touch up method should you choose?

Small rubbed mark

A tight sanding and spot sealer method works well when assembly has exposed a small local area but the surrounding coating is sound.

Colour repair

Use the prefilled spray or OC colour method when the damage needs real colour coverage, not only polishing.

Clear over base finish

Use 2K clearcoat spray when the colour stage needs a protective glossy clear layer over the repaired spot.

Technical details

  • Spot Sealer Spray is listed as a grey translucent sealer for local repair preparation before overcoating.
  • 2K clearcoat spray contains hardener and should be activated and used within its working time.
  • Silicone remover is important before touch up because small repairs are easily spoiled by fingerprints, wax or polish residue.
  • A local repair should be sanded cleanly enough for adhesion, but broad sanding increases the size of the refinishing area.
Practical suggestion

Mark the smallest repair boundary before sanding so the work stays local and the colour and clearcoat stage does not spread further than necessary.
