Paint trailer ramps and loading edges

Trailer ramp and loading edge protection with EP primer and textured coating

Guide to painting trailer ramps and loading edges

Trailer ramps and loading edges take repeated contact from tyres, shoes, cargo and tie-down work. Clean preparation, EP primer where metal is exposed and a textured Mipa Protector finish help create a tougher coated surface for these high wear areas.

What do you need to paint trailer ramps and loading edges?

Cleaning and degreasing

Mipa silicone remover and Mipa silicone remover spray colourless 400 ml remove grease, wax and silicone before sanding, primer or protective coating.

Sanding preparation

MP Sanding Sponge keys stable coating, edges, ribs and ramp profiles so primer or textured coating can grip.

EP primer system

Mipa EP 100-20 2K EP primer builds the primer base on prepared exposed metal. Mipa EP 950-25 hardener and Mipa EP Thinner belong with this primer stage.

Textured protective coating

Mipa Protector black and Mipa Protector tintable create a structured 2K protective finish for loading contact areas and exposed high wear surfaces.

Protector hardener

Mipa 2K Hardener H10 short belongs with the liquid Protector coating stage for the correct 2K build.

2K aerosol Protector

Mipa Protector 2K Spray black gives a compact textured coating method for smaller ramp edges and local loading contact zones.

How to paint trailer ramps and loading edges

  1. 1
    Clean before sanding

Remove dirt and oil film, then wipe the ramp or loading edge with silicone remover.

  2. 2
    Sand the contact area

Key stable paint and edges with the sanding sponge, then remove dust before primer or Protector.

  3. 3
    Prime exposed metal

Use the EP primer system on prepared bare metal areas before the textured protective coating.

  4. 4
    Apply textured protection

Use liquid Mipa Protector or Protector 2K Spray on the prepared ramp surface, keeping the coating even.

  5. 5
    Leave functional areas open

Keep hinges, lock points, threads, drain gaps and rubber bumpers free so the ramp still opens and closes correctly.

Which ramp protection method should you choose?

Liquid Protector for larger ramps

Use liquid Protector where the ramp or loading edge needs a broader, continuous textured coating.

Protector spray for local work

Use Protector 2K Spray on smaller sections, edge repairs and shaped loading zones where aerosol control is useful.

EP primer on exposed metal

Use EP primer where sanding exposes bare steel or prepared metal before the textured finish is applied.

Technical details

  • Mipa Protector is a structured 2K protective coating for heavy duty and high wear surfaces.
  • Mipa EP 100-20 provides an epoxy primer base for prepared metal areas before the protective finish.
  • The spray Protector option includes hardener for compact 2K aerosol work.
  • Ramps and loading edges should be clean, dry, keyed and free from loose rust before coating.
Practical suggestion

Paint ramps in manageable sections. This makes masking around hinges and latches easier and helps keep the texture consistent across the walking and loading surface.
