Guide to coating a tool trailer interior

A tool trailer interior needs a coating system that protects the floor, lower walls and storage edges from tools, boxes and daily loading wear.

What do you need to coat a tool trailer interior?

Surface keying by hand

MP sanding sponge helps scuff corners, ribs and shaped areas so primer or textured coating can grip evenly.

Cleaning and degreasing

Mipa silicone remover in liquid or spray format removes grease, wax and silicone before sanding, priming or coating.

Epoxy primer surfacer

Mipa EP Primer Surfacer builds a fast wet-on-wet epoxy primer layer with active corrosion protection and direct adhesion on steel, aluminium and zinc.

2K epoxy primer filler spray

Mipa 2K-EP Primer Filler Spray is useful for smaller repairs and edges where a spray format is easier than mixing liquid primer.

Textured load area coating

Mipa Protector black or tintable creates a tough 2K textured protective layer for transport surfaces, storage areas, load beds and heavy duty utility metal.

Protector spray for smaller areas

Mipa Protector 2K Spray gives the same heavy duty textured idea in a black aerosol format for edges, small boxes and local repair zones.

Grip additive for foot traffic

Mipa Grip Additive can be mixed into suitable protective coatings where extra traction is useful on steps, ramps or standing areas.

How to coat a tool trailer interior

  1. 1
    Clear the trailer interior

Remove loose boards, tie-downs and removable storage where possible so the metal or coated panels can be prepared fully.

  2. 2
    Clean, sand and dust off

Degrease first, scuff all contact surfaces and remove sanding dust before a second clean.

  3. 3
    Prime metal repairs and edges

Use EP Primer Surfacer or 2K epoxy primer filler spray on exposed metal, seams and repaired sections.

  4. 4
    Apply Mipa Protector

Coat floors, lower walls and storage contact areas with liquid Protector or Protector 2K Spray.

  5. 5
    Reassemble after cure

Refit tie-downs, racks and mats only after the coating can take pressure without marking.

Which trailer interior coating format should you choose?

Liquid coating for the main floor

Choose liquid Protector for larger floor and wall areas where even texture and film build matter.

Aerosol for tight trailer corners

Choose Protector 2K Spray for small interior corners, wheel arch returns and local touch-up zones.

Technical details

  • Mipa Protector is designed for transport beds and other heavy duty surfaces that need a textured protective coating.
  • EP Primer Surfacer gives corrosion protection and adhesion on properly prepared metal before the protective layer.
  • Mipa 2K thinner and the listed hardeners must be used only with their matching coating stages.
  • Grip Additive is useful on areas where people step into the trailer or stand while loading.
Practical suggestion

Keep the coating away from latch catches, sliding mechanisms and threaded holes. Tape those areas before application so the trailer still closes and adjusts correctly.
